Thermography

Thanks to infrared cameras, there is no longer a need to open walls and search awkward spaces of a house to pinpoint problems. The equipment can detect problems through covering materials without having to break anything!

Such a very special camera can detect:

  • Defects of the seal and thermal insulation of the building envelope
  • Water infiltration in the foundation or the roof
  • Condensation inside walls
  • Leaks in some heating systems

What is thermography?

Thermography is a technique that records the temperature of objects and materials with infrared rays. Infrared cameras record temperatures of different points of a surface being scanned. The measurement results appear as a colour-coded image called a thermogram.

Anomalies appear as colder or warmer colour points on the surface. For example, a blue patch on a wall scanned from inside the house in winter could indicate a lack of thermal insulation.

In such a case, a scan of the same wall taken outdoors would show the same patch in warm colours because of the heat loss.
